This weekend, Stanwell Park, North Steyne, Port Macquarie...
We did Stanwell Park, and a finer example of ocean swimming you would not get... water was c 23 deg C, which is perfect; air was warm without the oppression of summer, which is perfect; breeze was from the nor'-east, but so light as to hardly ruffly your hair, which is perfect; water was clear, although not quite as good as we've seen it before at Stanwell Park, which is perfect; and no blueys or anything else to sting, which is perfect... It just goes to show, autumn is the best time of year to swim. It's just perfect...
Tell us about your swims... North Steyne, Stanwell Park, Port Macquarie, and more...
North Steyne was fantastic. The water was crystal clear, and the 2.5 (2.8?)k swim did a full tour of the bay. Lots of buoys to help navigate. The 1k went north and the longer one south, which added some variety.
ReplyDeletePerfect weather, perfect conditions, perfect Sunday morning. Thanks to the volunteers.
North Steyne was FANtastic! Long, long, long swim (probably 2.8?) The sea was in a good mood, lots of colourful little fishies in the seaweed, lifesavers aplenty, great fruit at the end. No cutting buoys - lifesavers there to send you back (it was unintentional - I wasn't sure whether they were supposed to be on our left or right coming back - didn't listen to instructions at the start) First time I've done this swim but I'll be back next year - great value for money, generous hospitality. Little bit of a delay getting the times perhaps because we weren't issued with timing chips but so what? - lingering on the beach on a day like today can only do us all good. Thanks to the club, I had a great day.

North Steyne was also perfect today. Warm, calm, beautiful clear waters making the tour over the Bower in full sunlight just spectacular. This is been my favourite day out for a number of years and it definitely didn't disappoint today. Apart for a slight delay in the final results the organisation was as smooth and clear as one could hope for. Well done North Steyne crew.
ReplyDeleteThis was the pick of the season for me - a short drive south to a beautiful course, cool water, a reasonable sized competitive crowd, a wave to catch at the end and a free Hahn afterwards. Thanks to the guy who kept me company most of the way, kept me on track, Dave
ReplyDeleteJimmy Betts here from Mollymook had a great swim at Stanwell Park today. Cold beer and live music - what more can you ask for ! Great job guys and looking forward to seeing you all at Mollymook on the 11th of April for Round 12 of the Hahn Super Dry Series. See you in the Ocean.
ReplyDeleteOne of the reasons I love ocean swimming is it takes me to places I might otherwise not visit. Stanwell Park was worth the drive.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful autumnal day to peregrinate around Cabbage Tree Bay.

North Steyne was a beautiful day. Guys get rid of those SUPER SILLY SUPER SUITS. they are unfair. Shame on you.
ReplyDeleteJust noticed the Nth Steyne results. The M40-44 2km swim looked fierce. Lemmon, Jones and Clarke were all in sight of each other and set a hot pace. They put O'Brien into 5th which just shows how fast they were going. I've seen Lemmon's pool times and thought he would be unbeatable, but Jones and Clarke have shown that maybe he isn't. Lemmon is probably still the fastest in that age category, but would like to see Colin Braund thrown into the mix. Would Braund be faster than Lemmon? Hopefully all these guys will race at Byron this year.
ReplyDeleteAnd full credit to DeMestre..he's been the standout in the 45-49 category this season. Like to see how he goes against Glen Lawrence at Byron...but I'm not sure if Lawrence has moved up an age category? The 50-54 age group doesn't seem to have anyone well and truly above the others (maybe Brewer? but I could be wrong). 55-59 is dominated by Boland, that's undisputed, 60 -64 would be Longy but I think he's been beat a couple of times this season. 65+...Baldock or Koorey..don't really know about that one either.
Should be some interesting racing coming up in the next month or so. I don't know much about the younger age groups (< 40) or the women but I do see Krenkels coming up with some impressive times.
Nth Steyne looked like a great swim.
Just wanted to pass on my thanks to the Stanwell organisers for putting on such a smashing swim - the course was well laid out and easy to follow. I think this was the first time I was able to set a line and follow it for the duration of the swim! Also, a quick note of thanks to the fellow orange capper that was (politely) on my heels the entire race, having you on my tail gave me the right amount of encouragement to push out a personal best for this season! -Dave (Tamarama)
ReplyDeleteThanks to the organisers of the Nth Steyne swim. It was a great day and I'll be back to swim next year.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the M40-44 age group is very strong in ocean swimming. Those top guys are impressive.
Of all the swims the Stanwell Park swim is the one that just keeps getting better every year. It was a stunning day, the organisation streamlined and friendly, loads of buoys making the course clear and entertainment at the finish making quite the well rounded event. Well done guys. I'll be back next year.
