Cole Classic earlybird... A joke?

You reported with great diplomacy but $47 for an early bird entry to a swim is a joke.
For me after last year and the mayhem at the Cole, I can think of better ways to spend the money and the time so I will probably bypass it this year.

Keep up the good work.

  1. Goodness me! Herald runs 1st Cole Classic ad 2day urging punters to go to the website and enter... but they got their own web address wrong!

  2. Have recently swam The Waikiki Roughwater Swim in Hawaii . The organizers go to a great deal of trouble to make sure everything ran smoothly . I might add the entry fee $35 goes towards a cover costs non- profit event . Shame some clowns are turning a healthy fun sport into a lets make a buck event .I have always been happy to pay the $20-35 entry fee to Surf Club run events . At least you you know its going to great cause .Use to do a Ocean swim race just about every weekend . However if these so called professional event guys start running it ' myself as well as many others will give it the big flick .

  3. The price is a joke. No doubt economics 101 - demand is high, so let's put up the price. This time, it looks like a no-go event.

  4. In England, doing an open water swim costs around thirty five pounds a pop (The Great London Swim), and that's before wetsuit hire - if you don't have one.

    I guess it's all relative.

  5. Complete ripoff - to pay $47 for what will probably be a shortened course . Any waves over 2ft & they will freak out about someone getting into trouble - which is justifiable, as they will probably convince half of sydney that you can just 'have a go' at an ocean swim.

I will stick to the club run swims, so in the event of bad weather, my entry fee becomes a donation to the surfclub - a much better feeling than a donation to Fairfax.

  6. The peaches are nearly finished, so I Hope to find a oceanswim soon. The only problem this year is the entry fees Cole $47.00, B2B $40.00.

If i am to have multiple entries, I am either going to have to rob a bank or ask Mr. Ruddster for a economic stimulus grant.

I wonder if a bit of anarchy should be started to inform the ocean swim organisers that the peasants are revolting.
